He was not there

I know this is late. I am still catching up with blogs, and with everything else online that I have been ignoring for a month while playing  The Witcher in an effort to not go more insane from work stress and other stress.

Anyway.

As expected, Hu Jia was not allowed to attend the Sakharov Prize ceremony in Strasbourg in Mid-December. His health remains a concern, as he still has two thirds of his 3 1\2 years jail sentence to serve for subversion. His crime? He gave a testimony, via video-conference, to the EU Human rights Committee on human rights violations in China.

Hu’s wife Zeng Jinyan accepted the prize in his absence, and via video-conference (she is under house-arrest) said that she wants to use the €50,000 to start a foundation to help families of political activists serving jail sentences.
